Dairy 21 on quest to milk millions for research

One major research task would be to find ways to improve feed for cows so that more milk could be produced. The goal was to lift the "metabolisable energy" of feed by 50 per cent. "Now it's going to cost a lot of money because this is a hard question to solve." But Fraser said they had to lift the productivity of current acreage under dairying "by a significant factor".

Artists sought for Milk memorial

The application deadline for artists is August 1. The competition is open to artists nationally. Three finalists will be selected by a panel established for the project and each will be awarded a design fee of $2,500 to produce an original proposal for the commemorate sculpture. Those designs, called maquettes, will then be displayed in City Hall for public viewing and comment, hopefully by the end of 2007.
