Getting fatter
SunJournal.com (subscription), ME - Nov 19, 2006 for parents and specifically ask them not to bring their teen. Efforts include in-school curricula to encourage good eating habits, regular exercise and
In risk of getting on an ideological bandwagon here, obesity is another sign of the deteriorating family. I grew up in a home where Dad worked hard, Mom worked even harder keeping the house going, and everybody had chores -- physically exerting ones -- that made obesity almost laughable. How, we asked, could someone actually find the time to get fat? Today many don't have that system to keep them in shape, so they have embarrassing headlines like "Getting fatter" printed next to their name. But seriously, folks, if you don't want your children getting obese, keep them active! I understand that different people have different metabolisms, but even those who are prone to gaining weight can keep it off when parents are paying attention to their needs. My siblings and I had a bodily need for exercise, and it just so happened that the home had a need of chores. A coincidence? I don't think so. Responsible parents can fix this problem, but they're going to have to be unpopular and "make" their children actually break a sweat.
