RHS Foundation awards $15,000 in grants

Radford High School was awarded $4,096 for four projects, Dalton Intermediate received $2,299 for three projects, Belle Heth received $3,200 for three projects, and McHarg received $3,900 for eleven projects. In addition to the Campaign for Continuing Excellence and the Carilion Health and Wellness grants awarded each year, the Radford High School Foundation also gives out several other grants and endowed scholarships each year in the Radford City Schools system, as well as overseeing and fundraising for school-related capital projects including the James P. King center and the Radford Municipal Baseball field.

This challenge has opened new doors of dialogue regarding health and wellness. I have had numerous conversations with people about how they are dealing with diet, exercise, discipline and other related subjects. Kaiser Permanente has stepped up and donated a kit containing coupons, recipe cards and a pedometer for anyone joining the challenge. The Bakersfield Association for Retarded Citizens, a local non-profit corporation designed to help the developmentally disabled in many aspects of their lives, volunteered to assemble a team and has held meetings within the company to encourage the staff join the program and improve their health landscape. Conseco Health Insurance Company, an Indiana-based health insurance carrier, put together a team and is excited about what the future holds. My company, The Webb Insurance Group, also organized a team made up of employees, friends and family.
