Delphi's deadline

Delphi has said it could offer jobs at plants remaining open to workers from other locations. The new workers also are not being offered as rich a pay package as the employees who are leaving the company, but wages start at $14 an hour — about half of what most of the veterans are getting. Still, the area's manufacturing economy has lost thousands of jobs in the last five years, so a major employer replacing positions is viewed positively, area business leaders said. Overall, Delphi employs more than 2,100 at the Rochester plant, which makes components such as fuel injection systems, and a research center in Henrietta. Delphi also said it would protect its Lockport, Niagara County, plant, which is one of Buffalo's major employers.
