Preventing Diabetes

Diabetes is fast on rise among the adult population in the United States who are taking on to insulin to control their sugar levels. Not just adults, even over weight teenagers are getting this disease because of their unhealthy eating habits and lifestyle. There are many ways in which one an control diabetes and prevent it from ever bothering you.

Exercise is one of the most recommended means to prevent diabetes. Every day even exercise of thirty minutes is more than enough to keep diabetes away for at least 10 years if you follow this regularly. Thirty minutes of exercise does not mean a trip to the gym and checking out everyone there. A good exercise is important for a strong immune system too and besides it is essential for keeping the weight down.

Diet should be free of trans fats. Trans fats give rise to bad cholesterol which increases the content of carbohydrates in the blood. This also leads to heart diseases and contributes in a large way to diabetes type 2. Most importantly, too much sugary foods, refined carbohydrates and bleached flour need to be avoided. Fiber in food is very important to keep the blood free of sugar and carbohydrates. It is also very important to keep the intestines clean. Smoking has seen to increase diabetes in patients. People who smoke have twice the chance of developing diabetes and also other diseases of the lungs. Avoid alcohol or keep it to the minimum. Alcohols contain carbohydrates which can be quickly absorbed by the body. These few tips are known to prevent the onset of diabetes. If your family has a high presence of diabetic patients, then you need to consult a doctor to get medicines which will keep diabetes away. Hence it is better to keep diabetes at bay when you can instead of depending on insulin injections for the rest of your life.
